Application Process

Learn more about the DHS I&A application process.

As a member of the Intelligence Community, our hiring process can take a little longer than other federal agencies. Depending on your personal circumstances, such as how often you have moved, changed jobs or traveled, the total process may take as little as two months or as much as over a year.

What about veterans and Veterans' Preference?

We are proud to employee hundreds of former members of the U.S. Armed Forces and consider those who meet Veterans' Preference criteria as a positive factor in the selection process. However, we do not apply these preferences the same way as competitive civil service rules. If you’re a veteran and apply to a job at DHS I&A, you should still include your Veteran's Preference documentation.
  1. We consider Veterans’ Preference as a priority consideration factor over equally qualified candidates in the interview-hiring phase and a positive factor for retention during a reduction in force.
  2. We grant creditable service for active-duty military experience towards retirement eligibility and annual leave enhancement.
